What To Pack in Your Child’s Bag – What will they need?

You have made the decision to send your child to Nursery.  Your decision may be due to work commitments, or you would simply like your child to socialise with other children of their own age. There are many different reasons families choose to send their child to Nursery but the process of making this decision and can seem quite overwhelming.  The journey can be made easier and simpler when certain tips and advises are followed.

You have finally made your choice and your little one is off to nursery. If you are feeling a little worried or anxious about leaving your child for the first time, then having as much information as possible before their first day can help to lessen some of your uncertainties.

To help you prepare for your child’s first day, here’s a list of 10 things you need to bring to your nursery.

What to Bring

*All items should be clearly name labelled

  • A bag – this will contain all your child’s personal belongings.  
  • Extra sets of clothes (these may be left in the setting)
  • Three sets of Bedsheets if your child will be sleeping at the Nursery (some nurseries have their own so do check with them) 
  • Sets of diapers and wipes, nappy cream (to keep onsite) 
  • Plastic lunch box with healthy meals supporting independent eating – labelled with child’s name 
  • Water bottle with a covered mouthpiece – labelled with child’s name 
  • Sterilized bottles for milk if required
  • Powdered milk (to keep onsite) if required – some nurseries may request the milk to be pre-measured   
  • Sun cream and sun hat 
  • Indoor/outdoor shoes (if required at your nursery)


Personal Possessions 

We have lots of toys and resources for the children to play with. Therefore, children do not need to bring toys from home. If your child wishes to bring a “transition’’ toy or object, please ensure its clearly labelled with their name.
